The mission of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church is to communicate, foster and support the true and saving gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to our members, to our neighbors, the community and throughout the world, and to do so in an ongoing and expanding manner.

A Brief History of Our Congregation

The first worship service for the new congregation was held on January 24, 1982. There were nineteen charter members. The name chosen for the new church was Shepherd of the Hills.

A building was purchased a mile south of Hermann on Highway 19 and the first service was held there in April. Lay Minister Carl Krueger was called to be our first full-time minister. He served from December 2, 1992 and served until his retirement on June 30, 1991. Rev. Barry Akers was installed on July 14, 1992 and served until February 1996 and served until February 1996.Rev. Pete Scheele was ordained and installed on July 8, 1996.

We began a new building with the cornerstone-laying in 1999 at a new Highway 100 West location. The building was built by Layborers for Christ with lots of elbow grease from the members. The new church was dedicated on February 20, 2000.

Rev. Scheele took another call in August of 2004. Concordia Seminary, St. Louis assigned Vicar David Rawlings to serve the congregation in June 2005. He completed his vicarage and was called, ordained and installed a Pastor on May 21, 2006 and served until his retirement in August of 2019.

In September of 2019 retired pastor Stephen Kamprath began to serve our congregation on a part time bases. Rev. Kamprath visits with our shut-ins on Wednesdays and takes care of church business. On Thursdays holds Bible class and on Sundays delivers powerful and inspiring sermons.
